St Colman’s Drumaness won the Highly Commended award in the small club of the year category in the Irish News GAA Club & Volunteer Awards 2011 organised in association with the Ulster GAA Council. 

The Award was presented at a Gala Awards Lunch in the Wellington Park, Hotel, Belfast on Friday 6 May 2011 at which the guest speaker was Down County Football Manager, James McCartan. Addressing the event Aogán Ó Fearghail, President of the Ulster GAA Council and Noel Doran, Editor of The Irish News both stressed the importance of the role of volunteer in the Club and the Club itself in playing a pivotal role in its local community.

Club Chairman Brian Kennedy along with Club Secretary Brian Fegan and Club PRO Mark Donnelly accepted the Award on behalf of St Colman’s drumaness GAC.

Speaking immediately after the presentation Club Chairman said he was absolutely delighted that the Club was acknowledged for the excellent progress it is making across a wide range of activities. He added that the Award was just recognition for the exceptional commitment of many volunteers in promoting St Colman’s Drumaness GAC as an active and vibrant organisation in its local community. 

Club Secretary Brian Fegan stated that the Award would enhance the momentum within the Club as there are further exciting developments planned over the next few years. 

Club PRO Mark Donnelly said he was delighted that Drumaness provide a pivotal role in the local community and the clubs promotion of the GAA was acknowledged by The Irish News Club of the Year Awards.
